Overview: The idea was to take Snapchat's Spectacles, and design a product that would let consumers take them where no one had been able to take them before. Underwater. With Snapchat's blessing, and working with Oregon-based, deep-sea engineering specialists, Sexton, we fabricated, and pressure tested a unique mask that would allow divers to wear their Spectacles underwater. In addition to securing the design patent for Royal Caribbean, we also documented the construction of the prototypes, and announced the launch of the product with the teaser video below:
My role in this project was find the right partners to make this happen. I research partners and contracted an underwater outfitting company to collaborate on the design and build out 3D parts to to fit in the mask. I found the painting company able to execute branding in a fun color design that will work maintain underwater. I lastly was the quality assurance manager of the product by building the final product and testing by swimming in a pool daily to ensure it worked.
